Native North American snake


Habitat: prairies, pastures, old fields, savannas.
Diet: mice, rats, ground squirrels, pocket gophers, small rabbits, birds, bird eggs..
ID Features: mottled brown and tan body.
Natural History: The bullsnake is the largest snake species in Missouri, reaching 6' in length. It is diurnal, searching for rodents by day and hiding in rodent burrows by night. It feeds by constriction of its prey. Because of their voracious appetite for rodents, this snake is a valuable farm animal!!.
