Native North American snake


Habitat: rocky wooded valleys.
Diet: mice, lizards, snakes.
ID Features: dark colored body with dark blotches on a lighter background, head thin like body.
Natural History: The prairie kingsnake is Missouri's most common kingsnake and is found statewide. They are often seen basking in sunny places along the forest edge. They are NOT VENOMOUS!!.
