Missouri Plants
Buttercup   (Ranunculus arbortivus)
Tracheophyta: Angiosperm: Dicot: Crowfoot (Ranunculaceae)
North American native plant

Habitat: damp soil conditions.
ID Features: tiny yellow flowers.
Natural History: There are a number of species of woodland buttercups, that generally grow on damp wooded slopes in acid soil. They all generally have yellow flowers. The small-flowered buttercup, common in waste places, lacks showy petals. It is not a good representative of the buttercup group, but it is the only example that St. Louis commonly has!
