Habitat: full sun areas with top seasonal temperatures of 80° F.
ID Features: deep green color, flowers early in the spring.
Natural History: Kentucky bluegrass is a cool season grass that is considered one of the best grasses by appearance on lawns. It is difficult to grow in the hot summer weather of St. Louis and often goes dormant in July and August. It gets its name from the pale blue color of the flower stalks it produces in the spring.
